At long last one of my favorite Robert E. Howard characters will have his own movie, view the trailer here. The film, directed and written by Michael J. Bassett (with help from Howard of course) couldn't get any funding anywhere, dunno why, perhaps the Puritan (omg did he say Puritan?) nature of the Kane character scared off all of the big production studios. So Bassett shot this whole thing on a skeletal budget and mostly out of his own pocket from what I understand, remember that as you watch the trailer. Official release for the US is September 24, 2009 at the Austin Fantastic Fest. As far as I know there isn't going to be a theatrical release, so this means straight to DVD. Damn shame, but this movie should be fun!

Kanye, "waaaah haaaa haaaa waaaah" West shows us once more that he hasn't progressed past being a pre-pubescent 10 year old girl. I would post the video of Kanye being an ass to Taylor Swift at the VMAs but Viacom has pulled it under "copyright" violation law... or is it to protect an idiot from his own mouth?

Here we go, I finally post some work. Thanks to a whole bunch of people who have helped get me back in the saddle. I am working on getting a comfort level with my new tablet here, for some darned reason Wacom does not have a compatible driver with my old intuos tablet which saddens me greatly. These are sketches for the main character of a story I have been writing about the Templars.

The First Law Series

I have finished reading one of the most fantastic and beautifully written fantasy novels since Karl Edward Wagner passed. The author is an Englishman named Joe Abercrombie. This man can write. You will not find something that is so involved and so raw as yet truly fantastic and mesmerizing. The first book, "The Blade Itself" takes a bit of getting used to at first but once you are in you cannot put it down. The reason I say this is that the author weaves a tale that contains at least 6 central characters and introduces each one at a time... then he introduces more! The last time I can think of this being done successfully was by C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien. But once you get to know them you find yourself routing for them, laughing with them and being crushed with them. I read book one in all of a week. Book two took me four days, I could not put it down. Book three came in the mail last Thursday; I finished it Sunday morning at 2:00am. I have my wife hooked on this series and have passed it along to a friend who now beats me up for the third book as it has not yet been published here in the U.S. I had to order my second and third series via Amazon.co.uk.

There is one disappointing thing about this series. The end is one of the most anticlimactic endings I have ever read. It ranks right up there with the Children of Hurin as far as the funk it leaves you in once you have finished. But if you love fantasy you must read this series.

I really don't even know what to say here. I write because of the news of the passing of Luciano Pavarotti, possibly the greatest Tenor ever to grace the stage, and our ears, with his voice. I never knew him, nor did I have the privilege of seeing him in concert or in one of his many operatic roles, but his voice and music have been in the background of my life since I was a young child. While my personal taste in music ranges the entire gamut, the voice of Pavarotti, and the music that he loved, provided many thoughtful and peaceful moments in my life. He will be sorely missed.

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And that is how it began, and yes I do believe this statement from the 1st chapter of Genesis. But here it begins for this blog where Olaf will sound off. And many of you will discount my intellect for the statement above, but that is, of course, expected. Check back as I list my many unpleasant and unpopular opinions.
